Tribal Collection Review RemarksOctavius Seowtewa during collection review visit Nov. 16 and 17, 2009 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 3”): Though identified by Rick Dillingham as possibly dating from c. 1870, Mr. Seowtewa believes this pitcher may be older than that. Based on the simplicity of the designs, he was of the opinion that it may be a Pre-Contact piece. He encouraged research of the piece so that it might be accurately dated.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Jim Enote and Octavius Seowtewa during collection review visit January 9 and 10, 2014 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 12”): The neck of the jar is approximately as long as the body. The neck is slightly flared and decorated with four rows of diamond shapes. There are star-like designs at the corner of each diamond. A black line separates the neck designs from the body designs. The body is decorated with a row of feathers or step clouds at the top and the bottom edges of the body. A black line separates the body from the base. There are no line breaks on the jar. The base is painted a solid red. There is a fire cloud on the base and on the side. There is a blue residue on the bottom.
