DescriptionTurtle figurine; black slip with orange clay body exposed creating the design. The design consists of incised geometric patterns and a 1 cm turquoise stone on the turtle's back. The four legs of the turtle act as a stand.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit May 22-24, 2018 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 11”: This turtle is made with commercial materials. The stone was likely attached using an epoxy. The initials on the bottom of the turtle are “MS” so the participants believe this turtle could have been designed by Melody Simpson. Her grandmother is Maime Ortiz and her mother is Rachel Arnold.
