Lena Boone
Lena Boone is a member of a distinguished family of Zuni carvers. She and her sister, Dinah Gaspar, learned carving from their mother, Edna Leki, and grandfather, Teddy Weahkee. The family tradition continues among her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Boone is known for her carved figures in stone and many non-traditional materials such as orthoceras fossils, gold slag, and glass. The artist uses the same techniques for carving stone and glass. Working with a water-cooled grinding wheel, she cuts, carves, and polishes figures from translucent Murano glass and opaque slag glass.
