Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit May 9-11, 2017 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 8”): This bowl is made with natural materials including clay and slips. The clay used to make this bowl is not the typical white clay, instead it is a reddish brown colored clay found at Acoma. It is a more mud-like clay and is self-tempered. The potter may have been experimenting with it as it is not commonly used to make pieces like this. The entire bowl is slipped red and stone burnished on the interior. It does not appear to have been used.
