DescriptionRealistic depiction of Zuni Shulawitsi (Fire Keeper) kneeling, placing prayer sticks in a shrine. The figure carries in his left hand a basket with feather prayer sticks. A pueblo scene is depicted in the background with a mesa in the distance.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksJim Enote and Octavius Seowtewa during collection review visit Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2011 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 7”): This is a scene of Shulawitsi offering prayer sticks into a shrine. However, he would not carry the basket with the prayer sticks. His father, Andatchu, would carry the basket and hand the prayer sticks to Shulawitsi. Andatchu is missing from this scene. Shulawitsi would not carry a basket like the one he holds in his left hand, nor its contents. See SAR.1985-20-34 and IAF.P97 for more information about Shulawitsi.
