DescriptionAcoma or Laguna polychrome bowl; three-color; white slip with black painted decoration. The design consists of two design units of triangles (clouds) and hatching (rain lines) on the exterior. Repeating triangles or open diagonal rectangles (a variation of pathways) around the interior rim. Yellowish glaze on lower interior. Red base and red interior (absorbed by the glaze). Open high-walled bowl with outflaring rim.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit June 3-5, 2015 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo, Review 2”): The design and colors are indicative of Acoma therefore the participants believe this is an Acoma bowl. The participants noted when glaze is applied to the traditional red slips it ruins the original application of the slip.
