Tribal Collection Review RemarksOctavius Seowtewa during collection review visit Nov. 16 and 17, 2009 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 3”): Though the catalog record lists this piece as Zuni, Mr. Seowtewa confirmed that this is an Acoma jar. A group of Acoma elders that visited the collection in 2000 identified the design as Acoma. Mr. Seowtewa agreed with them and further explained that the design on the rim is not typical of Zuni rim designs.
According to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit April 3-5, 2018 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 10”): The participants did not agree this is an Acoma water jar. They believe this jar is Zuni based on the shape, weight, clay and paints. However, it was agreed that the design on this jar is indeed Acoma. It is likely that this jar was Zuni made and an Acoma design was painted on.
