DescriptionAcoma polychrome bird canteen, four-color polychrome. Bird head and tail (possibly duck or chicken), opening at top of head, protruding eyes, white slip with black, red, and orange painted decoration depicting wings, red underbody, flat base.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit February 17-19, 2016 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 5”): This is a bird canteen that may be a duck or a chicken. The design includes the wings of the bird. There may have been a handle at one point. Or it is possible that instead of a handle a leather or type of string was used to tie the tail and the head to create a handle. There are pathway breaks on the base.
