Tribal Collection Review RemarksJim Enote and Octavius Seowtewa during collection review visit April 6 and 7, 2009 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 1”): This is not a ceremonial bowl. It may have been made to look old by putting a hole in the bottom. (The hole does not appear to be the type that would indicate it might have been a burial item.) The bowl is okay for research and publication.
This jar, as well as IAF.2240 and IAF.2241 were all from the same donor. During Collection Review 5 (December 7 and 8, 2010), all three jars were examined with a black light, and each of them showed spatters of paint that were not original to the jar. It is possible that the donor collected them from a source that was engaging in intentional antiquing.
