DescriptionPlains Dancer. Channel inlay. Design: a dancer wearing a bonnet holding a spear and a shield. Flower on kilt is filled with plastic aluminum. Materials used are silver, tortoiseshell, coral, mother of pearl, turquoise, jet, and plastic aluminum.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksOctavius Seowtewa during collection review visit February 17 and 18, 2010 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 4”): The technique used for this piece is channel inlay. Mr. Seowtewa and Mr. Enote agree with the artist attribution. The catalog description for the piece should be changed to include that the figure is also holding a shield, in addition to a spear. The materials used are silver, tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, jet, turquoise, and plastic aluminum. The catalog card states that abalone and white mussel are used but this is incorrect; all of the white shell in this piece is mother of pearl.
