Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit May 9-11, 2017 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 8”): The participants believe this is an Acoma bowl based on the design and materials. The clay looks like the usual Acoma white colored clay and doesn’t appear to be a Hopi piece. They also haven’t seen many traditional bowls from Laguna and not many are slipped orange on the interior. This bowl does not appear to have been used therefore was likely made for sale or given as a gift to someone at Old Oraibi (which could explain the provenance and condition). The design looks as though the paint used to fill in the outline is lighter in color. It could be that different black paint rocks were used. The design is a typical Acoma design. The irregular shape may be due to warping during the firing which is sometimes caused by one piece leaning on another.
