Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit May 9-11, 2017 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 8”): This bowl is slipped orange on the exterior. The fireclouds do not show through the white flowers. The participants believe that the flowers were painted again after the firing because the fireclouds do not show on them. It was not fired again after the white flowers were repainted because the fireclouds would have come off during the second firing. It was agreed by all the participants that the flowers were repainted however they were not sure if it was repainted with the natural white slip (ipsha), a more grainy natural white slip (yaama), or some type of commercial paint. It doesn’t appear that this bowl was used.
