DescriptionPainting based on the Hopi folk story "Fieldmouse Goes to War." Acrylic paint over gesso on canvas. The light gray shadow of Warrior Mouse (based on a carving in IARC's collection with the catalog number SAR.1994-8-68), stands between two hawks, each perched on a rocky outcropping (based on a carving in IARC's collection with the catalog number SAR. 2001-7-5). The hawks and the outcroppings are painted in stripes of gray, blue, green, mauve, dark orange and beige. A black flower hangs from the top of the painting, between the two hawks. There are light gray shadows of a dried, upside down flowers, above and behind the other figures.

See the Notes field for an explanation of the technique used to create this painting.
