DescriptionAcoma polychrome handmade turtle figurine; three-color; white slipped with orange and black/brown painted decoration. The design consists of hatching (rain lines) with two bold black triangles with two inner filled black triangles. The turtle stands on four legs and the border of the shell and tail is orange.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit November 29-30, and December 1, 2016 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 7”): This turtle figurine is made with traditional natural materials including the clay and paints and was fired outdoors. Dolores Lewis Garcia, Lucy’s daughter, provided the possible date range for this piece.
