DescriptionThis is a twined treasure basket made of willow. All the colors are the natural colors of the materials. The basket is predominantly white, with brown decorative strips, which run horizontally. It has a rounded shape which constricts slightly before opening to a slightly flared rim. The supports are of slender willow twigs. The white stitches are made of inner willow bark which has had the outer bark scraped off. The brown stitches are of the outer willow bark, which, according to the artist, only separates easily from the inner bark if it is harvested in winter. (On the Object Background Questionnaire, he states "Willow, when gathered in the winter, aheres to the cambian layer of the willow shoot." This is what causes the brown color of the winter bark.) The handle is made of a cord of twisted milkweed bark fiber.
