DescriptionAcoma polychrome jar; three-color; white slip with black and orange painted geometric design. The design consists of two bands of design with motifs repeated horizontally around pot. The neck band has repeating hatching (rain lines) filled triangles capped with two solid hemispheres (clouds). The band on the body has four sections of black filled stepped triangles with a cloud motif on the interior of them, and orange filled stepped triangles with and inner hatching filled zigzag shape. Red-orange base and interior rim.
Tribal Collection Review RemarksAccording to the participants in the Acoma collection review visit May 11-13, 2016 (Events Record “Collection Review: Acoma Pueblo Review 6”): The artist of this jar is Margaret Peggy Garcia. She is known by her middle name, Peggy, in the community but signs her work “M. Garcia”. The participants also noted that the artist could potentially be her daughter Melanie Garcia; she also paints pottery. Margaret Peggy Garcia sells at the Santa Fe Indian Market. Margaret is still making pottery.
