DescriptionNgayayataqa Katsina. Cottonwood root is carved as a figure swaying toward the left, with two legs and feet, two small forearms with hands against body. Painted mask has large light green band at top, a black line, a reddish brown band, then a black band with three white dashes. Eyes are denoted by two black lines; rounded reddish-brown ears on either side of head, and tube mouth extends outward, painted reddish-brown on sides, light green on end, with large black dot in center. Black yarn loops across top of forehead and down either side of face, and duck feathers point outward horizontally from top of head, with white chicken fluff above. Entire doll is painted with mineral pigments, and is wearing a white kilt, with black torso and a white semi-circle extending down from the neck with four grey lines hanging down from the bottom, and white moccasins.
