Tribal Collection Review RemarksOctavius Seowtewa during collection review visit February 17 and 18, 2010 (Events Record “Collection Review: Zuni Tribe, Review 4”): This piece depicts a young, unmarried Hopi woman, as is indicated by her hair style. Mr. Sewotewa suggested Leo Poblano or Mary Morgan as possible artists for this piece. Leo Poblano was known for making maiden figures similar to this. The materials used are silver, spiny oyster, jet, turquoise, abalone, and mother of pear. The catalog card states that coral and white shell are used; the red is spiny oyster, not coral, and the white is mother of pearl.
