Depictions of Horses
In this selection of works, you will see depictions of horses from the Indian Arts Research Center’s collection. These pieces illustrate the longstanding and intimate relationships between Native peoples and their horses. These works were created during a variety of time periods and reference the roles these animals have occupied and continue to occupy within Southwest Native American peoples’ lives. The selection was compiled in conjunction with an exhibition titled “Horses in the IARC Collection,” curated by Erin Monique Grant and Amanda Sorensen, the 2019-2020 Anne Ray Interns.
